Anxiety stress and coping
Anxiety stress and coping Most of us suffer from anxiety stress and coping with it can be very difficult. The questions we need to ask ourselves are what is it that we are anxious about and why? Why do we worry about some things and not about others? Most of the time it is because we have learned to be worried about certain things. We learn to react in certain ways from our parents or significant others in our childhood. If your mother was a “worry pot”, the chances are very good that you will have learned to behave in the same way. We normally look up to our role models and learn how to deal with life by copying their behavior. The good news is that you can unlearn to be anxious and learn to cope better with potential stressors in your life. This was a very powerful thought for me when I first realized it. You have complete control over how you react to any situation. It might be difficult in the beginning but it gets easier the more you practice until it becomes your automatic reaction. The very first step is to become aware of how you react to any given situation. Try and observe yourself whenever you start feeling anxious or stressed. Observe how you behave. The next step is to ask yourself how you might react differently. Is the situation really going to get any better if you are stressed? Make the decision to consciously react in a more calm and relaxed manner. It can be quite difficult in the beginning but it will get easier the more you do it. The most important step is to become aware of your anxious or stressed reaction. Once you are aware of how you react, it becomes easier to change your reaction. We do not need to change anybody outside of ourselves in order to live a stress free life. The most important and only thing we can change is ourselves. You will find that once you have control over how you react to situations, others will notice the change too and react positively towards you. You have the power to change and control your stress – just do it! Check out
