Stress relief techniques

These easy stress relief techniques will help you stay in a more relaxed and peaceful state of mind. The most important thing to remember is that you should practice these techniques regularly. The more often you practice the better the results.

Deep breathing

The beauty of deep breathing is that it can be practiced anywhere, anytime. When we breathe deeply we get more oxygen into our bodies and has a great calming effect. The trick is to inhale from our stomachs and not from our chests. This means you should inhale as deeply as possible. You should always breathe through your nose whist doing deep breathing.

• Inhale through your nose as deeply as possible.

• Hold breath for 3 seconds.

• Exhale through nose. Forcing out with diaphragm.

• Repeat 10 times.

Breathing for stress relief Muscle relaxation

We keep a lot of tension and stress in our physical bodies. The various ways of muscle relaxation are great stress relief techniques. You do not need a lot of space and you only need about 5 – 10 minutes. This is what you should do:

• Lie on your back and loosen any tight clothing.

• Your arms should be beside your body with palms up.

• Breathing should be normal.

• Imagine a wave of relaxation starting to come over your toes and slowly moving its way up your body.

• Feel each muscle in you toes; feet, calves etc relax as wave moves up legs.

• Relaxation wave moves slowly up your legs and over your torso.

• It eventually covers your whole body.

• Go to each muscle and look for any tension and then relax.

As you feel your body totally engulfed in this wave of relaxation, let your entire body totally relax and sink into the ground. Look out for any tension in your body and if found – relax.

When you feel ready you can slowly start coming out of this relaxed state.

Sex

I am sure you will be glad to know that sex is also great for relaxation and stress relief. If you need to know how to do it ……… speak to your mom and dad about the birds and the bees!

Music

Music has a big influence on our emotions. I know of restaurants that play upbeat music in order to make their customers unconsciously eat fast and get out, making room for more customers. Calming music on the other hand has the opposite effect. Music for stress relief Exercise

When we exercise our bodies release our “feel good” chemicals called endorphins. Not only do we benefit from getting fit from exercise but we also get a shot of endorphins every time we exercise! This is what happens when runners experience their “runners high”. And it is legal! A fit and healthy body from exercise can deal a whole lot better with stress.

Yoga

I keep on mentioning yoga on this website and it is for a good reason – IT WORKS! Yoga has benefits for your physical, mental and spiritual bodies. People of all ages are enjoying the benefits of yoga. You are never too old to start yoga.
