Visualization

By this I do not mean that you should visualize strangling your boss! Visualization is a kind of meditation and is very effective in workplace stress relief. If you can find a quiet space for a few minutes it is even better.

Start by imagining a place of peace and beauty – shut off any external interference and really experience this place of exquisite peace and beauty. Imagine lying on your back looking up into the sky. Take a break

Sounds simple but how often do we take a break. Things get so hectic at work that you forget to take breaks to regroup. A break gives you a time out and a time to put things in perspective. I often get to a stage where I cannot find a solution to a problem. After a short break I come back and quite often the solution was there right in front of me.

Make a list

When you have many things to do, your mind runs crazy and cannot focus on what you really need to get done. If you make a list of all the tasks, it makes things a lot simpler and easier to accomplish.

Is it really that serious?

Quite often the things that we get stressed out about are not really all that important. Take a step back and look at what is stressing you out. Is it worth getting yourself upset about it? Is it really that serious?

Avoid stress cadets

There are some people that thrive on drama. I like to call them drama queens or stress cadets! It would do you good to steer clear of these people. They will make the smallest problem into a mountain.

I always like to look at any stressful situation from a detached third party perspective. It is as if the real me is watching the stressed out me. When I do this, the problem always seems to lose it’s seriousness and it is put into perspective.
